OLD BOYS' REUNION.
SACRED HEART COLLEGE. " 1 PAST AND PRESENT PROBLEMS. POSSIBILITIES OF SERVICE. Suggestions lliat the former students of secondary schools could unite with advantage to give a lead in the present lime of difficulty in New Zealand were made at the annual reunion of old boys of Sacred Heart, College on Saturday evening. The. president of the Old Boys' Association, Mr. C. A. Sneddon, presided over the gathering at the college. Mr. Sneddon welcomed tho past students who had assembled and also the representatives of several kindred associations. In proposing tho toast of "Alma Mater," he expressed the opinion that reunions served an excellent purpose. "Wisdom, and not the pleasure of tho immediate moment, is the aim of the college," he stated, when mentioning the lasting influence of the college upon its pupils. It was the duty of every old boy to carry on the qualities given him by the college as a foundation. In reply, the headmaster, Brother Benignus, said it was a cause of satisfaction to have former pupils visit the college. Ho said true happiness was not based on enjoyment alone, and, especially at present, loyalty, generosity and friendslfp were of the utmost importance. Much of the poverty in New Zealand at present had been brought about by extravagance, and he believed that former pupils of secondary schools could give a lead in tho current economy principles. Ihc Rev. Dr. Buxton, proposing the toast of " Kindred Associations," said all the great schools were doing similar work. The present time was testing the value of old boys' associations, and the members should be prepared to assist those leaving school to find employment. Representatives of tho old boys' associations of the Auckland Grammar School, King's College, Prince Albert College, St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and tho Wellington branch of the Sacred Heart Old Boys' Association replied. The toast of " The Old Boys' Association" was proposed by Brother Stephen, who congratulated the members on their interest in the college.
Instrumental and vocal numbers were given by Messrs. Elton Black, L. Barnes, A. Mt El wain, and A. Bree, Mr. L. Elliott being the accompanist.
A mass in connection with the reunion celebrations was held in the college chapel at 10 a.m. yesterday, there being a good attendance. The celebrant was the Rev. Father W. Flynn. Father H.
