WAIKATO WINTER SHOW.
SUCCESS OF THE FIXTURE. INCREASE IN GATE RECEIPTS. [from our own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Sunday. "The support of tlio public has mado the exhibition an outstanding success in the face of very great difficulties," said tho president of the Waikato Winter Show Association, Mr. J. Treloar, in commenting on the results of tho 26th annual show at tho official closing ceremony last evening. Mr. Treloar said the gate receipts for the live clays of tho exhibition totalled £1582, compared with £llsO for tho first five days of the fixture last year, when the season extended over eight days. The takings on individual days were as follows, the corresponding amounts for the previous show being given in parentheses: —First day, £173. (£147); second, £258 (£180); third, £320 (£228); fourth, £544 (£294); fifth, £287 (£301). Tlio total increase was £432. At tho conclusion of the president's remarks, in which ho made eulogistic reference to tho efforts of all tho voluntary workers to ensure the success of tho show, and to tho support accorded by Women's Institutes in tho district courts' competition, tho exhibition was formally closed by "Jason." the mechanical man.
Although not, as g'cat as the attendance on the fifth day last year, the number of visitors yesterday is regarded as very satisfactory. It is estimated that over 9000 peoplo attended, this number including many relief workers and children, who were admitted free. On Friday the attendance was estimated by the secretary, Mr. W. 11. Paul, to bo approximately 17,000. The value of the show from a business standpoint is illustrated by the fact that many of the concerns with stands in the industrial sections report having taken a largo number of orders. The principal of one firm expressed the opinion that tlio Waikato Winter Show was, from this aspect, the best fixture of its kind in tho Dominion.
