LAW SCHOLARSHIP.
AUCKLANDER'S SUCCESS. AWARD TO MR. R. C. McELROY. The post-graduate or travelling scholarship in law has been awarded by the University, of New Zealand to Mr. R. G. McElroy, of the Auckland University College. Mr. McElroy proposes to leave in a few months for England to pursue his studies in the law of contract and he will endeavour to spend two years at Cambridge. The post-graduate scholarship, is offered every two years by the University of New Zealand to the student in any of the four affiliated colleges who can show tho best scholastic record throughout his whole course. The scholarship has been available for law students since 1925, and, of the four scholarships awarded, one was gained by a student from Victoria College,^Wellington, while tho remaining three have come to Auckland. Mr. McElroy has had a distinguished scholastic career. He obtained his secondary education at the Thames High School and tho Auckland Grammar School, winning both junior and senior national scholarships. He entered the Auckland University College in 1924, taking his LL.B. in 1928 and his LL.M. in the following • year with second-class honours. He was also successful in gaining the senior university scholarship in contract and torts. For several years he was 'employed as a law clerk .in Auckland and for the.last two years he has been associate to Mr. Justice Smith.
