WORK FOR EXTRA MEN.

Liberal provision for the unemployed of the city during the present week has been arranged.

The Mayor. Mr. G. W. Hutchison, announced on Saturday that ho had made arrangements with the Labour Depaitmenfc for the City Council's stand-down •week, in which only 200 relief men aie employed and which normally would have been this week, to be postponed and the City Council would provide work for 900 cit.y men instead of 200. For this one week only, the usual pay days will be dispensed with and the men will bo paid each night as tliey leave work.

The effect of this will be that all men who lost time for any cause whatever last week may make up their lost time if they report on their jobs to day. Provision will be made for an additional 400 men beyond those that have recently been engaged by the council. The Mount Albert Borough Council has also decided to provide work to-day for unemployed men of the borough for whom this week would be a stand-down period.
