ROYAL SQUADRON'S EVENTS.

CRUISING RACE TO NGA-TOA. GOOD RECOVERY BY PRIZE. . The Koya' New Zealand Yacht Squadron held a cruining race to Matiatia, \Yaihekc, on Saturday for keel yachts and also a harbour race fir class M. The race for keel yachts took the form of a general handicap and was started on llic M-irk Foy syrtein. Tho winner was Messrs. Winslone Bros.' Nga-Toa. The harbour race was won by Maroro. The wind was very light m Ihe earlj part, of tho afternoon and several of the boats were late. The handicaps and order of starting were: - Alexa, 37m, starting time, 1.45 p.m., 14m 30s late; Jenet, 34m, 1.43 p.m., 12m late; Wairiki, 25 m, 1..57 p.m.; Waitangi, 26m, 1.58 p.m., 11m late; Windward, 18m, 2.4 p.m ; Little Jim, 15m 30s, 2.61 p.m., 6'm late; Waion;. 14m. 2.8 p.m., 4m late; Prize. 10m, 2.12 p.m.; Nga-Toa, scr, 2.22 p.m.; loraugai, scr, 2.22, p.m., 4m lata. The course was direct to Matiatia and the light easterly wind gave the boats a beat all the. way from the start, with the ebb tide in their favour. Wairiki, which got away first owing to the limit boats being lute, continued her lead down the harbour, followed by Janet, Windward, Waione. Little Jim, Prize, Nga-Toa. Waitanei, Alexa and lorangi. Bolow the Sandspit, Janet passed Wairiki, which also had to give plate to Waione, Windward and Little Jim. Nga-Toa was sailing well in the light weather and was slowly overhauling tho limit boats. After clearing North Head sho stood over to tho Rangitoto shorn and, passing Janet, Waione and Wairiki. took the lead. Prize, lorangi and Little Jim worked the southern 6hore after clearing tho harbour, all keeping well over toward Brown's Island. Prize touched the sandbank near Devonport wharf, but got off without difficulty. She did well after clearing Brown's Island, an easterly slant enabling her to draw away from lorangi, Windward. Waione and Jn.net. Toward the finish, Priza caught Little Jim, but was unable to pass her, both boats crossing the line together.

The finishing limes wore:—-Nga-Toa, 611 57m 30s; Prize, 6h 15m 255; Little Jim, Oh 15m 255; Waioue, 6h 16m 435: lorangi, Gli 17m 4Ss; Windward, 6h 18m 14s; Janet. Gh 'Jim 5G3. Wairiki and Alexa finished very lato und Waitangi crossed the line under power. The result was:--Nga-Toa, 1: Prize and Little Jim, dead heat, 2; Waione, 4. SUCCESS OF MARORO. A good start was effected in the race for class M. Mawhiti was first away and close 011 her stern came Manene, Matarere, Manu and Maroro. Mawhiti maintained her lead for some distance down the harbour, where she was passed by Manene. The latter was still in the lead when the boats returned fiom the White Light buoy in Rangitoto Channel. Maroro had now worked her way into second place and when tho Basticu was passed Maroro headed Manene. The race started at 2.45 p.m. The finishing times wereMaroro, 5h 9m 15s; Manene, 5h 9m 475; Manu. 5h 10m 425: Mawhiti, 5h 13m 5Gs; Matarere, 5h 14m 21s. The result was:—Maroro, 1; Manene, 2; Manu, 3. The officers for the day were Messrs. C. V. Connolly, G. Metcalfe. S. Tewsley, H. L. Reeves and W. J. Reid. TAKAPUNA BOATING CLUB. RACE FOR FELLOWSHIP CUP. Three races for class Z boats were held by the Takapuna Boating Club on Saturday afternoon. The first event was for the O. K. Lawless Shield and was won by Oi, sailed by C-. Carter. The Juvimile Harmony Cup, between crews representing the Manukau Yacht Club and the Takapuna Boating Club, resulted in a win for the Manukuu boys in Delphine. The crews were:—Manukau, B. Rawlinson (skipper) and J. Cooper. Takapuna (Trevic), J. Hardman (skipper) and V. Johnson. The race for the Goodfellow Cup was sailed at the same time as the Juvenile Harmony Cup and was for senior crews representing tho Takapuna and Manukau Yacht Clubs. The result was a win for the Takapuna Club. The crews and their boats were:—Takapuna, Me Too, J. J. Mackay (skipper) and N. Matheson. Manukau. Oi, N. Paddy (skipper) and J. Mcintosh. All races were sailed from scratch. The Manukau visitors were entertained by the Taiapuna Club on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable time was spent. VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. RAN IT WINS HANDICAP. The Victoria Cruising Club brought its season to a close on Saturday, when races were held ! or all classes. The 18ft., 20ft.. 22ft. and 26ft. yachts and launches raced to Howick, and the 16ft. and under classes competed over a harbour course. The larger yachts and launches were started on the Mark Foy system of giving the handicaps at the start, the smaller classes being sent away together. All events were started from the Western in Freeman's Bay. The wind was very light and in the harbour event the officials stopped this boats on completion of the first round and halved the handicaps. The officers in charge of the racing were: —Messrs. O. Johnson, E. Griffiths. J. McGehan, W. E. Utting and G. Mobberley. Details are as follows: GENERAL HANDICAP. The general handicap for the larger classes brought out 1G competitors, which all got away according to their handicaps, except Mowai and Awatere. The former was 16m f.nd the latter 18m late. The easterly wind gave the boats a beat to their destiintion and progress was slow. Wild Wave led until well down the harbour, when} she was passed by Ranui, and once in the lead the latter was never headed. Starloch overhauled Omatere shortly after tlie start, but near North Head Omatere passed her rival. Celox and Omatere had a great tussle for second place. Demon gradually improved her position and finished well ahead of her rivals.
