WONDERFUL MODEL CITY.

A MECHANICAL MARVEL.

SIR GEORGE JULIUS* WORK

During the last ten years, Sir George Julius, of Sydney, son of Archbishop Julius, has spent many of his spare hours in constructing a model city, and its surrounding countryside, says the Sydney Morning Herald. Recently a party from the Technical College and tho technical high schools inspected tho model at Sir George Julius' home. Later parties of schoolchildren will probably be given an opportunity to' see the model, and the proceeds of their visits will bo devoted to several charities in which Lady Julius is interested.

"1 can say without exaggeration that the model is ono of tho mechanical wonders of tho world," said Mr. Nangle, superintendent of technical education, when tho inspection was over. "1 am doubtful if the world contains another construction to approach it."

Tlio model covers an area of 25ft. by Bft., and rises to a height of 10ft.. Trams inn through tlie city stre-jts and pedestrians walk its footpaths. When night comes on, the, pressing of a button switches on an electric lighting system. From tlio railway station departs an electric train, which soon winds its way among (lie mountains. ' The whole railway system is properly interlocked so that no train can pass a station without the signals being favourable. In the mountains are caves and waterfalls. Near by there is a coalmine in working order. An overhead ore conveyor system is in operation, and there are cranes that can bo moved in four or five directions and can grasp logs. All the members of the party, which numbered more than 40, expressed amazement at tha accuracy and intricacy of detail with which the model has been constructed.
