DEATH OF MR J. H. C. BOND

COMPANY SUPERINTENDENT.

FORMER SERVICE IN AUCKLAND. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Sunday. The death occurred this evening of Mr. J. H. C. Bond, Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, aged 60 years. Mr. Bond, who was the younger son of Mr. W. T. Bond, of Nelson, and son-in-law of the late Mr. D. Goldie, of Auckland, entered the Union Steam Ship Company's service in 1889, and in 1891 joined its sea staff as assistant purser of the Wainui, then running between Auckland and the Islands. In 1898, after being on the staff of several Island traders, he became

purser of tho Moana, then in the San Francisco mail service. After coming ashore Mr. Bond acted as relieving manager at several branch offices, and in 1898 was appointed to Auckland as special officer in connection with the Island and mail services. In the following year he was appointed chief clerk at Auckland, and held this post until 1904, when he took up the position of manager at Gisborne.

In 1905 Mr. Bond was appointed assistant traffic manager at the company's head office in Dunodin, and two years later was advanced to the position of general traffic manager. He succeeded Mr. A. B. J. Irvine as manager at Auckland in February, 1920. A year later he was appointed Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, his headquarters being in Wellington.
