THE GAME SEASON.

ROTORUA DISTRICT AREAS. RESTRICTIONS REMOVED. Under the new regulations issued for the approaching shooting season the restriction has been removed from all but two of the excepted areas in the Rotorua acclimatisation district. Last season a, number of larger areas were closed to sportsmen on the owners' applications, but with the removal of these restrictions this year a considerably wider area will be open for shooting. The removal of the restrictions does not in any way affect the right of the owner to prohibit shooting, but leaves it to his discretion. Excepted areas a:;e entirely apart from game sanctuaries and scenic reserves, which are automatically classed as sanctuaries. With til? exception of Mr. G. Wood's property (approximately 9000 acres) at Waimangu, there have been no alterations made in the sanctuary areas. Tho only excepted areas in the district this season will be lakes Rotoaira, at Tokaanu, and Rotokaua (the Bitter Lake) at Taupo. This restriction applies to the lake waters and the land within a mile radius of shores.

Efforts have, recently been made by the, same club to obtain an open season for black teal on Lake Rotomahana, but a suggestion to this effect lias been declined by the Internal Affairs Department. The season is open for grey duck on this lake, but for a number of years black teal have been protected.
