YESTERDAY'S AUCTIONS. PRICES OF EGGS INCREASE. '[he demand for most, lines of apples and pears was very poor at the Auckland City Markets yesterday, only a few lines of dessert fruit selling easily. There were much heavier supplies of tomatoes, and the prices fell accordingly, the best; quality selling at from 2s to 3s a case. Tho demand for mushrooms showed a marked improvement at yesterday's sales, the prices rising to as high as 7s a tin. Supplies were comparatively small, but the mushrooms generally were of belter quality than those offered at earlier' sales. Bananas sold readily at 17s to 13s 6d a case for the finest repacked fruit, other grades being cheaper. Second quality realised 4s to 7s a case. Prices of apples were not materially altered, while pears sold at rates above those ruling earlier in the week. Tho field produce market was heavily supplied with cabbage, cauliflower, beans and pumpkins. There were also good supplies of green peas, lettuce, celery and all other vegetables in season. The demand was fair for most lines, the prices remaining at ruling rates for the most part, although beans were, cheaper. A heavy supplv_ of poultry met with a fair demand at yesterday's auctions. The prices paid remained about level with those ruling at earlier sales. There was a further increase in the prices of both lien and duck eggs, B grade in each case realising Is a dozen.
