HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. STORMY, WITH HEAVY RAIN. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-dav was supplied by Mr. IT. M. Vincent last evening:— The tropical disturbance has now crossed the Auckland Peninsular, and parsed eastward. A new storm system of greater intensity is moving across the Tasman Sea en to New Zealand from the Australian coast. Expect temporarily fair to fine weather, with increasing cloudiness, conditions becoming overcast again, and heavy general rains following. Thunder' probable in many places. Easterly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale. Seas becoming rough and increasing generally. Local outlook; Stormy, with heavy rain. Mild and humid conditions. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.30 in. Midnight, Sunday .. 30.251n. Temperature in shade yesterday do midnight)— Maximum, 64deg.; Minimum, 56dog.
GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows Pressure has remained high over New Zealand and relatively low to the northward. A depression is still situated over Victoria and Tasmania. Indications are for southeasterly to north-easterly winds, moderate generally, but strong at places in and north of Cook Strait. Seas rough 011 the.east coast of the North Island and off shore north of Farewell Spit; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea : Freshening east. Icr north winds with rough sea. Weather fair to fine in 1111.1st districts, hut further scattered showers likely 011 the east coast of the North Island and in the Auckland Province. RAINFALL RECORD.
