FRANCE TO NOUMEA.
AIRMEN REACH DARWIN. NOW ON WAY TO BRISBANE. (Received March 27, 5.5 p.m.) DARWIN, March. 27. Three French airmen, MM. C. de Vcrneiile and Meuch and Captain Max Dcve, in the aeroplane Biarritz, arrived at Darwin yesterday afternoon, en route to Noumea, New Caledonia, via Brisbane. They left for the Queensland capital to day.
M. Charles de Verneille, with M. Meucli as- his pilot-mechanic, and Captain Max Dcve as wireless operator and navigator, left. Le Bourget, near Paris, on March 7 on a flight to Noumea, New Caledonia, via Darwin, Rockhampton arid Brisbane. M. Meucli has previously flown from Paris to Madagascar. This is the first attempt to fly from Franco to that country's colony of New Caledonia. The three airmen are using a Couzinet aeroplane, with three British engines developing 300 horse-power. It is a low-wing monoplane, and has an unusually high cruising speed. The distance from Brisbane to Noumea is about 800 miles. M. de Verneille recently flew from Paris to Addis Abbaba, Abyssinia.
