RIVER TRUST OPERATIONS. HOSTILITY OF UNEMPLOYED. * [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION".! CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. ' A meeting of unemployed to-day declared black the scheme of works to be carried out the Waimakariri River Trust in conjunction with the Unemployment Board. Married men are offered 37s 6d for a' 40-hours week. A central strike committee and other committees were set up and the meeting expressed its determination to do all in its power' to prevent any unemployed workers who did not respect this decision from leaving Christchurch on Tuesday morning for ths workers' camp. There was also some talk of picketing the Labour Department'! offices in Christchurch. Mr. H. W. Harris, engineer for tha River Trust, in "a statement made later in the afternoon, said that many of the men engaged for the River Trust work had expressed to him their intention of accepting the wages offered. These men com- , plained that the meeting had not been confined to the men to be drafted to these works, but had been open to other unemployed who could cany hostile resolutions without jeopardising themselves.
