NORTH OTAGO CROPS.
FLOODS DELAY THRESHING. [nV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OAMARU. Saturday. The threshing of wheat in North Otago has boon delayed owing to tlie recent flood. All stook threshing is practically completed, but a large quantity of the grain obtained is hard to place. A number of lines have been accepted by millers, while of others they have taken only portions of the crop. The impression gained recently that, the wheat pool is taking delivery of a considerable quantity of sprouted wheat is controverted by an Oamaru miller, who states that the only sprouted wheat of which the pool has taken delivery are samples for testing. lie also says that even if the baking test is satisfactory only a proportion of this kind of wheat could be made use of. Unfortunately much that, coming to hand is not only sprouted but damp, having been threshed before it was thoroughly dry. Naturally it is necessary for the sprouted wheat to be in the best possible state before it is placed on the market and to secure that end a long term in the stacji is essential. Pastures in North Otago are in a splendid state and root crops are in a promising condition. In the Papakaio district great samples of ryegrass and Dunn oat» have been obtained.
