SEWAGE DISPOSAL.
Sir, —In view of the big scheme our drainage board has under consideration, the following extract from the life of Frank Buckland (tho noted scientist and naturalist) should bo of interest.— "Against river pollutions he continued to lift up his voice, telling the people of Gloucester that the Chinese, who used everything in the way of manure, called us barbarians, perhaps because we poured our sewage into the rivers. A calculation had been made that the utilisation of our sewage would produce four hundred and five million loaves of bread, enough to nourish five millions of people for a year. Thousands a year arc paid for guano from tho South Sra Islands, while we waste what he have at our own doors. Take the pollutions from the river, where they are doing harm, and place them on tho land, where they would bo doing good." A.F.W.
