EASTER GAMES COMMENCE. CONTESTS AT EDEN PARK. ANNUAL COLLEGE FIXTURE. Three Easter mntche*. extending over two flays, were commenced nt Edun Turk on Saturday under tho control of the Auckland Cricket Association. . The weather was fine mid the wickets were in pood order. An Auckland team met the Auckland Mid-week Cricket Association representatives on No. 1 wicket, tho former batting first and compiling inn. At stumps the Mid-week team had lost two wickets for 30. The Auckland and "Wellington Training Colleges wcro engaged on No. wicket.. Auckland having first use of tho wicket to compile '220. while replied with 81 for seven wickets. The remaining match was between the Auckland junior representatives and Akarami Colts. Tho junior representatives scored a total of 177 runs, tho innings closing just on time. All matches will he concluded to-day. AUCKLAND'S POOR BATTING. SLOW RATE OK SCORING. The Auckland team gained the right to bat first in the match against the Midweek representatives at Eden Park on Saturday and was responsible for a very poor display. T. Lyon made top score with fi-1, but took an exceedingly long time to get his runs. D. Webb, 52, and E. T. Leys, 45. were tho only other batsmen to fare the bowling with any degree of confidence, the innings realising 100 runs in closo on threo and n-ha 1 f hours of play.
