time-table alterations. NEW AFTERNOON EXPRESS. CHANGES ON OTHER LINES. A number of alterations in the timetables of express trains is announced by the Railway Department, to take effect from Monday, April 4. The present 7.40 p.m. express from Auckland to Wellington is to be replaced by a train departing from Auckland at 3 p.m. and arriving at, the capital city at 7.42 a.m. the following clay, "'his train will run daily (Sundays excepted), the principal stopping places being Mercer, Frank ton, To Kuiti, National Park, Tailiape, Marlon and Palmerston North. 'lhe train will also stop at Pukekohe. No change is to be made in tli« running of the north-bound expresses.The amended time-table on line North Auckland, line will result iti a saving of 21 minutes on the run between Auckland and Whangarei. Leaving Auckland daily (not including Sundays) at 8.40 a.m. the express will reach Whangarei at 2.22 p.m., instead of 2.43 p.m. as at present. On tlio southern irip the train will leave Whangarei at 12.32 p.m., 17 reunites later than previously, and will arrive at its destination at 6.12 p.m., the present time of arrival. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays tho .northern express will proceeed as far as Opua, where it will arrive at, 5.11 p.m., instead of 5.20 p.m. The down journey will be made on the same days, leaving Opua aL 9.45 a.m., instead of 9.40 a.m. The Auckland-Tauranga, express will leave daily (with the exception of Sundays) at the usual time, 9.8 a.m., but will arrive at Tauranga at 4.41 p.m., a saving of 15 minutes. The service will continue to Taneatua on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the time of arrival being 7.47 p.m., against 8.5 p.m. as at present. On tho inward journey Ihe express will depart, from Taneatua (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) at 7.45 a.m., instead of 7.25 a.m.; and Tauranga (daily) at, ]0.50 a.m., instead of 10.35 a.m. ; arriving at Auckland at the usual time, 6.20 p.m. Minor alterations arc also to be made in the time-tables of several of the slower trains, including those on suburban lines.
