TVhen Ann Mackintosh, aged 47. pleaded guilty at St. Albans l'econtly to stealing two pearl necklaces valued at £1370, it was stated that she pawned them for £3 each. They had been recovered by the police. Counsel for the pawnbrokers concerned said that the money was paid as v b loan, and did not represent ihe value of. the pearls, which were the property ' of Mrs: Elinor Spencer Gosling, aged 92, by whom Mackintosh was as a Siurse-companion. The latter was sen- • ' iauced io six months' imprisonment.
