WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Marohemo. About 20 members and several visitors were present at the March meeting of the institute. Mrs. A. Trewin, the newly-elected president, presided. Mrs. J. Anderson gave a very interesting demonstration of moccasin making. Songs rendered by Mrs. Ingram were enjoyed. \\ inners of tho competition were Mrs. J. Anderson, Mrs. Petrie and Mrs. Robertson, 1; Misses Martin, Cawkwell, IT. Morgan and B. Ilill, 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. T. Hill and Mrs. F. Trewin. Afternoon tea provided by members closed the meeting. Oratia.—Alter business in connection with the bi-annual federation meeting, to bo held in May, was dealt with, members took part in a roll-call, " A Quick Dinner." Mrs. Perkins gave a demonstration of cutting out a frock, which was much appreciated. There was also a guessing competition. Mrs. Vranges gained highest points for the apple-pie exhibits. At the close of the meeting aiternoon tea was sewed. Waitoa.—At the March meeting a demonstration of fancy stitching on the sewing machine was given by Mr. Ennis, who will continue the series during the winter. A most amusing play, " Under a Misapprehension," was read by members and a recitation was given by Miss Malcolm. A portrait drawing competition was won by Mrs. Sou tor. Hostesses were Mesdames 11. Kerr, Maclean, Blackwell, Lewis, Craig and Blomfield.
