DEEP-SEA FISHING.
SPORT OFF CAPE BRETT. COOD CONTESTS WITH MARLIN. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] RUSSELL, Friday. Great sport was enjoyed off Cape Brett by Mr. and Miss Hooper, of Cheshire, England, when they hooked simultaneously two striped marlin. Both angleis have fished in many parts of the world, but this was their first attempt with swordfish. The situation was one not many experienced anglers could have handled successfully, but both fish were landed. The weight of the marlin caught by Miss Hooper was 3601b. and of that landed by Mr. Hooper. 1941b., each taking over an tour to land. Later in the day Mr. Hooper captuied & striped marlin weighing 2721b. Isext day Mr. Hooper landed another striped marlin, which weighed 3841b., which put U P a wonderful fight and broached 15 4inies. Mr. Otto Somer, of Leipzig, fishing from the launch Manaaki, had a great fight with a big fish which eventually broke the line without showing near tho surface. He later caught a mako shark weighing 1281b. The next day he landed a black marlin weighing 3361b. Mr. terrier, from the same launch, got a Diako shark of 961b.
