BORSTAL YOUTHS ESCAPE.
APPEARANCE IN COURT. COMMITTAL FOR SENTENCE. [FROM OOR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. Two inmates of tho W aikcria Borstal Institute, Henry Williams and Maurice Edward Wiston, each aged 20, appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court to-day charged with escaping from custody. Evidence was given bv the institute superintendent, James Dunlop, that the accused were committed t<j his custody in March, 1931, to serve tliree years' detention. On Saturday afternoon, March 5, while the inmates weve playing games, the accused escaped. They were captured two days later at Pirongia by Warder D. Cavers. W r hen questioned on their return to the institute, Williams said ho could not resist the temptation to run away. Wiston said lie did not want to go, but Wilkams persuaded him. Both accused pleaded guilty. Williams said he was sorry he ran away. Accused were committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.
