OTAHUHU AFFAIRS.

DRIVING OF STOCK. NEW BY-LAW TO BE FRAMED. A report on the authority of the Otahuhu Borough Council to control the driving of herds of bulls through the town was submitted by the town clerk, Mr. R. W. F. Wood, at a meeting on Thursday evening. The report was called in consequence of a complaint that herds had recently been driven through the town to the danger of children. The town clerk stated there was nothing in the by-laws forbidding the driving of bulls through the borough. It was recommended that the only way to control the driving of bulls would be to fix definite hours for driving mobs without a permit, or to prohibit driving unless there was a permit. It was decided that the Legal and Finance Committee should frame a by-law to control the situation. The site of a bus stop at the southern end of Otahuhu which has been changed for a number of reasons during the past year by the council, was further considered, when a deputation from the Otahuhu Businessmen's Progressive League waited on the council. The present position was opposed by the deputation on the ground that is was isolated, exposed to the elements and inconvenient for the travelling public. The manager of the bus company said the most suitable site was a position some 120 yards north. The Mayor, Mr. 11. T. Clements, said he was opposed to moving the stop, as there would be considerable danger to traffic through congestion. The request was refused on a vote.

The treasurer reported that the percentage of rates paid to the end of February was 50.09 per cent. The 10 per cent, penalty would be enforced from Monday.
