DARTMOOR PRISON.

SENSATIONAL STORIES. HOME SECRETARY PROTESTS. LONDON, Feb. 25. The Home Secretary, Sir Herbert Samuel, stated in the House of Commons that all was quiet in Dartmoor prison. He contradicted a series of sensational press stories of alleged incidents at Dartmoor and Wormwood Scrubs since February 8, which he said were without foundation. Sir Herbert expressed the opinion that the House should join in a condemnation of the publication of sensational and fictitious reports which created a false impression, both at Home and abroad, "of British prison conditions. Since 1914, 29 out of 56 prisons in Britain had been closed, and the general reorganisation of tho institutions had involved tho removal of a number of prisoners from Dartmoor.
