BATH SALTS.

HOME-MADE AND SCENTED.

If you find the best bath salts a little too expensive, why not make some to suit your individual needs ? It is quite simple. Put one pound of dust free soda crystals into a wide-mouthed jar. and stir in the thinly-sliced rind of a lemon. Cork up and leave for 48 hours. When the peel is thoroughly dry, remove it, and you will find that a faint verbena fragrance has been imparted to the crystals. Now poor half an ounce of jasmine perfume and >1 few drops of cochineal over the crystals, stir gently for a minute or so, cork up the jar so that it is thoroughly airtight, and leavo for a week. The crystals will then be ready for use. If you wish to prepare attractive bath salts to present to friends, purchase wellshaped crystals from the chemist —they cost slightly more than the ordinary kind used for "general household purposes. These soda crystals can be coloured by spraving with a solution of spirit dye or an ordinary household cold-water dye. If you intend to perfume them, make this the last operation of all. Never perfume bath salts before colouring, or the dye will detract from the fragrance of the scent.

Remember that soda crystals rapidly become powdery in appearance when exposed to the air, and so they should be stored in an airtight container and kept in a cool place.
