THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. SOME DOWNWARD TENDENCIES. Downward tendencies predominated in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when a fairly substantia volume of business was recorded. Government loans had sparse inquiry, and sellers did not operate very freely. Unchanged rates were realised for 1937 per cent, bonds, but similar stock was socurcd 5s cheaper at £9B ss, with moro available at that price. Inquiry was renewed at £9B. Dealing was a little moro active in banks, in which holders quoted lower levels in a number of instances. Commercials of Australia were released a penny lower at 14s Id. Nationals of New Zealand were taken equal to late rates at £3 10s without any movement in quotations. Nationals of Australasia, contributing, weakened 3s in a # transaction at £4 17s, and Unions wcro unsupported at £7 3s 6d, a, concession of Is 6d. An advance of 3d was registered in tho D preference issue of Bank of New -Zen lands. Offers were vainly lifted to £8 19s for Australasias. The only inquiry in insurance was confined to South British, which wero secured 9d easier at 51s.

Quiet conditions prevailed in other sections. Tho preference issue of Traders' Finance, which was reccnfly officially listed, was secured at 15s 6d. Par value is £L Steady rates ruled for Australian Glass, which were taken again at 29s 6d. Colonial Sugars eased 5s in trading at £37 10s.

Fairly steady conditions existed in mining investments. The only dealing took place in Waihi Junctions at the unchanged price of 3s 9d.

The Exchange will not ogen to-day, a holiday being observed for the agricultural show.
