THREE GREAT VESSELS.
ARRIVAL AT SYDNEY. TOURISTS WELCOMED. (Received February 25, 9.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 25. History was made at Port Jackson today with the arrival of three great ships —tho Mariposa, the largest vessel in the Pacific trade, the Strathnaver, the largest liner in the Australian trade, and the Aorangi, the biggest motor-ship to visit Sydney. The newspapers remark upon the striking coincidence that the two latest additions to the Australian oversea trade, the Mariposa and the Strathnaver, should have reached Sydney to-da,* Both majestic vessels arrived in the purple mists early this morning. Later the weather became bright,' sunny and exhilarating affording tho passengers and tourists a unique opportunity of seeing the harbour and Sydney at i's best. The Mariposa's tourists, led by Mr. Louis Stone, director of the cruise, were given a civic reception. Some of the Strathnaver's passengers also were welcomed by the Lord Mayor, Mr. Joseph Jackson. Noteworthy speeches covered a large range of subjects, the keynote of which was trade reciprocity.
