GREAT CHARGE USED.
OVER SIX TONS OF POWDER.
STONE FOR HARBOUR BOARD.

A blast, took place at the Greymouth "Harbour Board's quarry at Cobden early this morning, when it is estimated 100,000 tons of stone were brought down. Of this fully 20 per cent, was first-class and 30 per cent, second-class. Mr. McLean, chairman of the board, fired the charge without a hitch. Six and a-half tons of blasting powder were used for the charges, which Were placed at intersection in three drives and crosscuts, all being effective. The first-class stone is to be utilised for filling- the southern tip at the entrance to the Grey River. -
