LOSS OF THE KOTITI.
CARGO MAY HAVE SHIFTED. OPINION OF THE COURT. [nY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. The opinion that the vessel Kotiti, when she left Westport on her last trip, was seaworthy and well found, and that her loss was not caused or contributed to by any act or default on the part of her master, crew or owners, is expressed by the Marine Court which inquired into her foundering. From the position of various articles that came ashore, and a consideration of the wind and tides prevailing throughout the relevant period, the Court concluded that the vessel was lost at a point approximately duo west of Capo Farewell. It considers that a probable cause of the loss of the vessel might have been the shifting of the coal cargo in heavy seas. The Court makes certain recommendations in respect to the proper stowing of deck cargo and the prevention of coal and other mobile cargoes from shifting in heavy seas.
