DISMISSAL OF TEACHERS.

TWO GRAMMAR SCHOOLS. RESULT OF FEWER PUPILS. The services of three Auckland secondary school teachers, two at the Girls' Grammar School and one at the Mount Albert Grammar School, are to be dispensed with, owing to tho appreciable decrease in the numbers of pupils. Tho position at the Takapuna Grammar School is also being considered, but if no further reduction in the roll occurs this term the present staff will be retained. No action is expected at the other schools. At the Auckland Grammar School, Mr. W. G. Harwood, senior science master, who lias been appointed headmaster of the Rotortia High School, is to be replaced. Tho roll at the Auckland Girls' Grammar School has fallen from 614 at the beginning of last- year to 553 this year, a decline of 61. The figures for Mount Albert are 659 to 635, and for Takapuna 491 to 481, decreases of 24 and 10. The teachers affected at the Girls' Grammar School are those of the lowest grading. At yesterday's meeting of the Grammar School Board the recommendation of the headmistress, Miss E. M. Johnston, was adopted by the board-in-committee. In announcing the board's action after the meeting, tho chairman, Professor A, P. W. Thomas, said the step was regrettable, but imperative. No action has yet been taken in the case of Mount Albert Grammar School, as tlie headmaster's recommendation has yet to bo received.
