SOCIAL NEWS.

Mrs. Annetfc, of Matanga, is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. J. Gibbons, of Alfredton, Wairarapa, is visiting Auckland. The Mayoress, Mrs. G. W. Hutchison, is paying a short visit to Manly. Mrs. and Miss Montgomery, of Christchurch, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Miss A. Drummond and Miss Radcliffe, of Whangaroi, were recent visitors to the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Lady Carncross and Miss Carncross, of Eltham, Taranaki, arrived in Wellington on Monday for the session. Mrs. N. R. Templer, of Dell Avenue, Remuera, is leaving to-morrow by the Maunganui for a short, holiday visit to Sydney. Mrs. J. R. Galloway, of Palmerstgn North, is a visitor to Auckland and is staying with friends in Grange Road, Mourtfc Eden. Mrs. J. A. Young, wife of the Minister of Health, left Hamilton early in the week for Wellington to attend the opening of Parliament. Miss Levy, who has been spending some months in travelling about New Zealand, will leave on Friday for Sydney en route for her home in England. Mrs. Aubrey Bullock-Webster has returned to Auckland from Russell, where she had been deep-sea fishing. She is staying at tho Grand Hotel. The Whangarei High School Board of Governors has accepted with regret the resignation of Miss E. A. Giblin, who has been matron of the girls' hostel for a considerable period. Miss Giblin has been appointed matron of the Girls' Collegiate School, Wanganui, and will commence her duties there at Easter.
