BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
FIRE BOARD LEVY. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, (lie. Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, presiding. In connection with a communication regarding employment of disabled soldiers, the Mayor stated there was a number of ex-soldiers on the No. 5 relief scheme. No married men wero out of employment at Birkenhead so far as lie knew. The use of Hinemoa Park was granted to the Northeoto and Birkenhead Regatta Committee on March 5 for holding aquatic competitions on the waterfront. The Auckland Harbour Board is to bo asked to provide shelter on the Birkenhead Wharf from (ho foot of the gangway to the bus stop. A notice of motion by Mr. R. R. ITayman (o rescind the resolution to pay the amount of the Fire Board levy for the current year, £350, from the carnival fund held by the council was lost, by five votes to four. Tho balance of the fund, approximately £3OO, is to be placed in a separate bank account on fixed deposit* Tho Mayor said tho levy had been naici to the Fire Board. s
