HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED. Tho following weather forecast, for 24 hours from 7 a„jn. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. IST. Vincent' last evening:—The westerly depression which was referred to yesterday as being located on tho southwest Tasman Sea is now moving on to the Dominion, and cloudy and unsettled weather is expected generally, with rain following over most, of New Zealand, particularly in western areas. A heavy rainfall is likely in tho Waikato district. Scattered thunderstorms are indicated in places near tho west coasts of hoth islands. Northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, freshening and increasing strong to gale. Seas rough and increasing generally. The Government meteorologist reported last, evening as follows: —A moderate westerly depression is crossing New Zealand, while an intense, anti-cyclonc covers southern Australia. There are indications of a tropical cyclone in the neighbourhood of New Caledonia. Indications are for moderate northerlies at first north of Greymouth and Akaroa. hut a change to freshening southerlies, extending from the south during the next 24 hours. Seas rather rough about Coolc and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Strong south-westerly to southerly winds and rather rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea.
