DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIPS.
PLEA FOR RESTORATION. A strong plea for the restoration of the scholarship system, by which children from country districts could receive secondary education in the city, was made bv Jliss A. L. Loudon, headmistress of the Epsom Gills' Grammar School, in a letter received at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board. Miss Loudon pointed out that the five candidates from the Epsom school in the university entrance scholarship, who gained third, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth places, were all products of the district scholarship system. They came from Rotorua, To Awamutu, Te Aroha, Coromandel and Ilowick. It has been announced that the scholarship system will be replaced by bursaries.
