TRAM FARES IN CITY.
PENNY SECTION ADVOCATED. BOARD TO MAKE INQUIRIES. Several suggestions for the adoption of penny sections on the tramways were advanced at a meeting of the Auckland Transport Board yesterday, when Mr. R. G. Clark moved that the route between Customs Street and the Town Hall be made a special section for penny fares. "I am satisfied that the board is losing a great deal of revenue under the present arrangements," said Mr. Clark. "Many people will pay Id to ride up Queen Street, whereas they will not pay 2d." Mr. E. Morton: If a penny section is adopted in Queen Street, the board should follow suit in Onehunga
Mr. T. Bloodworth said there should be a penny section for the whole of Queen Street to the railway station. "This opens up the whole question of tho penny section, of which I am a strong advocate," said Mr. F. N. Bartrnm. It was decided to refer the matter to the board-in-committee for investigation.
