THE MATSON SERVICE.

Sn-j—Prior to my departuro from New Zealand for the United State on October 31 last, I read with interest I lie various comments adverse to the activity of the Matson Navigation Company, who had then been making Auckland a port of call for .some months. I am in a position to see what is going on in the Matson ( ompany s development in the United States and can say that they are due for considerable credit for tlie way they are promoting New Zealand interests. Their publicity is carried into every available coiner to interest passenger traffic. Particularly is credit due for the support they ha\e shown tnc to promote the sale of New Zealand goods in the United States. They have led me to every avenue that it was possible to touch, supplying me with an automobile and one of their executives to effect introductions. Til fact, tbev have shown more enthusiasm than any department of commerce in this kind of work. Should the introduction of New Zealand goods be successful in the United Stales it. will be through the help of the Matson Company. The New Zealand people must realise that more passenger traffic from the United States means more foreign money spent, in New Zealand, and also the dues and charges against the ships all go to New Zealand companies or the Harbour Board. I.think the Matson' Company should be encouraged instead of being "slated" as they have been in the past. A. ('. I'ortey.
