OIL WELLS IN SEA.
MOTUROA PREDICTION.
THREE NEW BORES PLANNED.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday.
Considerable extensions in oil boring operations have been decided upon by the Moturoa Oilfields Company. .A site lias been selected for No. 3 well, which will be put down 800 ft. nearer New Plymouth than No. 2 well, and further up the beach.
The company's consulting geologist, Dr. A. R. Andrew, has recommended that in view of the satisfactory production of No. 2 well further wells should be drilled, and arrangements are in progress for drilling three more. In order that the work may be carried out more cheaply it is intended to purchase a complete steel drilling plant that can be moved from one well to another more speedily than the present equipment. It is also intended to purchase modern producing equipment, which is expected to increase production from the No. 2 well. The managing director, Mr. C. N. Taylor, states that undoubtedly in the near future wells will be drilled from jetties constructed out into the sea. There is every indication, he says, that the oil is trending seaward.
