TWO PRISONERS ESCAPE.

DASH MADE FROM CAMP. THEFT OF A MOTOR-CAR*. MEN TRAVELLING NORTH. ' LAST SEEN PASSING TAUPO. An escape from the Hautu Prison Camp, hear Tokaanu, was made by two prisoners, Augustine William Sullivan and Edgar William Allen, early yesterday morning. The men stole a motor-car at Turangi, about two miles, from the camp, and are believed to be travelling toward '.Auckland. They were last seen at sixo'clock yesterday morning going through Tnnpo. The prisoners broke from their cells at about four o'clock in the morning. The alarm was given about two hours later and a strong body of warders set out in pursuit. By this time the fugitives had reached Turangi and were travelling in a caf, belonging to Mr. R. E. Cuthbertson, which they stolo from outside his house. The car is a Chrysler five-seater sedan model, with a large carrier on the back. It is painted blue. The men were seen in the car at Taupo. Advice of the escape was received by The Auckland police. All stations between Auckland and Taupo were advised and a watch was being kept on the main thoroughfares. No trace" of the car or the men had been found at an early hour this morning.

When he was being escorted to Auckland for trial last May, he made a sensational escape from the Main Trunk express at Frankton Junction. As soon as he reached the platform he threw himself off the train, which was travelling at a , fairly . fast speed. Immediate pursuit was impossible, but Sullivan was recaptured shortly afterward. Sullivan, a native of Australia, is aged 29 and is sft. Bin. in height. He is of strong build, has a fresh complexion, auburn hair and blue eyes. He is a salesman by occupation. The other man, Allen, is a native of Tasmania and a labourer. He is aged 30 and is also sft. Sin. in height. He has a fresh complexion, dark brown hair and blue eyes, and has a scar on the right cheek. He was serving a sentence Of 'five years' imprisonment for breaking and entering at Auckland.
