REMARKS ABOUT POLICE. POSSIBLE FURTHER ACTION. SYDNEY. Feb. 20. The Sydney Daily Telegraph says further legal action against Colonel Eric Campbell, leader of the New Guard, is believed to bo contemplated by the Government of New South Wales. • The Chief Secretary, Mr. M. Gosling, said he had received a report from the Acting-Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police, Mr. Irving, concerning Colonel Campbell's speech 011 Thursday in which he is alleged to have said: " Ono of the police who took a prominent part in the ' insulting words' case has been promoted and one defective who made the mistake of saying he thought I was an honourable man. has been reduced in rank." , Mr. Irving says these statements are not correct. No police officer concerned in the case was either promoted or lost rank.
