FRENCH MINISTRY.
M. PAINLEVE FAILS. FORMED BY M. TARDIEU. ' (Received February 22, 12.25 a.m.) PARIS, Feb. 21. M. Painlcve abandoned the task of forming a Cabinet owing to the refusal of the leaders of the Eight and Centre Parties, MM. Laval, Tardieu and Reymaud, to join as M. Painleve did not offer them the Ministry of the Interior. Subsequently M. Tardieu formed a Government of 13 members, eight, fewer than in the previous Ministry. Several portfolios are combined. An innovation is that the Ministry of National Defence absorbs the War and Navy portfolios. M. 'Tardieu is Prime Minister and alsti takes Foreign Affairs. The other chief appointments are:— Labour—M. Laval. Finance—M. Flandin. National Defence—M. Pietri. Interior—M. Mahieu. Justice —M. Reymaud. The President, M. Downer, received the new Ministers at 12.30 p.m. to-day. The Government will meet Parliament on Tuesday and M. lardieu will return to Geneya on Wednesday.
