ELECTRIC REPORTER.

COURT PROCEEDINGS. EXPERIMENT SUCCESSFUL. [from our own correspondent.] LONDON, Jan. 14. At the Manchester Police Court recently proceedings were electro magnetically recorded for the first time. At the conclusion of the case selected for the test the magistrates put on headphones and listeied to the record that hael been mechanically taken. The chairman pronounced the sxperiment a success. Fcr the purpose of the test microphones were installed on the Bench, in the witness box, the dock and on the clerk's tahLs, and, by means of the new system, the whole of the proceedings were recorded on a narrow steel t'ape. The microphones were connected with a monitor box, which had been fixed to control the recording and eliminate irrelevant matter. The inventor later said that he was very satisfied witfi the results of the experiment. The steel tapes on which the proceedings were recorded could be sorted and used at any time. At present., he added, the system was merely regarded as an experiment.
