THE DAVIS CUP.

HOPES OF UNITED STATES. TWO BRILLIANT YOUTHS. The prospects of America regaining the Davis Cup shortly are considered bright by Mr. H. R. Hackett, of New York, a former Davis Cup player for the United States, who'is travelling with Mrs. Hackett on the Mariposa. Mr. Hackett said there were" several brilliant young players coming to the front. in the United States. Chief of these was Elsworth Vines, a youth of 20, who had played his way from number seven ranking to number one during the past, season. His game strongly resembled that of Tilden and his court-work was equal to that of the former champion. His doubles partner, a youth named Gledhill, showed almost. equal brilliance. • '-'The United States is not going to rest, until we see the cup back again," said Mr. Hackett. "The tennis sense of tho nation has been aroused and every effort is being made to find likely Davis Cup players. France's champions are fading, Cochet being now her main hope. England has Perry and Austin, but tho United States hopes to produce players better than these."
