DEVONPORT CLUB'S REGATTA

RACE FOR THE DUDER CUP. EASY WIN FOR lORANGI. The Devonport Yacht Club held its annual regatta on Saturday afternoon, nil events starting and finishing off Devonport Wharf. The weather conditions were not favourable at the start of the various events, there being little ur no wind, About four o'clock, however, a breeze came away from the north-west, and later shifted to the west, accompanied by rain squalls. The keel yacht Wairiki carried away her mast above Devonport Wharf and the 26ft. II class boat Omatere broke her bridle on the gaff. The seven-footer Wish Wynne capsized and the Weona. broke her rudder. The most, important race,' for the Duller Cup, was won by Mr. G. McKenzie's lorangi. The officials in charge of the racing were: —Starter and timekeeper, Mr. L. M. Wood; judge, Mr. G. Miller; recorder. Mr. G. E. Laycock. Details are as follows:THE DUDER CUP. The race for the Duder Cup was confined to A. B, C and E class keel yachts, and brought out nine starters. At gunfire lorangi crossed the line first, closely followed by Kotuku, Windward. Vectis, Wairiki, Janet, and Dorothy. Prize was 7m and Monna. 8m late. There was a very ( light breeze from the north-west, and very slow progress was made to the Bastion, which was not reached until over an hour after the start. lorangi managed to keep her lead and Windward ran into second place, hut later was passed by Moann. Once in the channel the boats were able to make better progress, and at 4.30 p.m. they were helped by a fresh westerly wind. lorangi v>ns first round Duder Spit buoy and then followed Moana, Windward, Prize. Wairiki, Vectis, Kotuku, Janet and Dorothy. Prize replaced Windward in the return from the channel. lorangi continued her lead and finished a long way ahead of the other boats. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—lorangi (2m). 5h 22m 425; Moana (0m 30s). 5h 30m 8s; Prize (8m 30s), 5h 40m 255; Windward (14m 30s), 5h 43m 455; Vectis (27). oh 51m 31s; Kotuku (25m), sh_ 52m; Dorothy (28m), 5h 56m 475. Janet and Wairiki retired. The result on corrected times was;— lorangi. I: Vectis, 2; Kotuku. 3. The starters in the race for classes H. L and N were Omatere. Celox, Spray, Venus, Rnkon, Stnrloeh, Awatere. Wairere and Marie. All got away to time except "Wairere and Marie, which were very late. Omatere drew away from the others and was first round Bastion, followed by Stnrloeh. She continued her lead out to the channel mark and back again until reaching the Bnstipn, where her bridle carried away. Repairs were effected and after reefing Omatere carried on. Meanwhile she was passed by Starloch. C'elox and Spray. The race started at 2.10 p.m. The finishing times were:—Starloch (scr), 5h 30m 265; Celox (6m), 5h 40m 545. : Spray (4rn). 5h 44m 255: Omatere (scr). 5h 45m 525: Rakoa (10m). 5h 48m 275; Venus (12m), 5h 56m 335: Wairere (14m), 5h 58m 5Gs. Marie retired. The result on corrected times was:— Starloch. 3; Celox. 2; Rakoa, 3. Mnwhiti crossed the line first in the race for class M and close on her stern came Maroro and Maratca. Manene was late. There wa.« liftle between the first, three boats on the ruh to White Light buoy, and on tho beat back again Mawhiti was passed by Maroro. The race started at. 2.50 p.m.. The finishing times were:—Maroro, 4h 48m 9s; Mawhiti., 5h 0 m 235; Mam tea, 5h dm 475. The result was:—Maroro 1; Mawhiti, 2; Mnratea, 3. June and Mnid Marion started in the race for tho Star class, but neither completed the course.

When classes V and S were pent away there was very liftle wind, the start being a straggling one. Avro, Mystic and Doris made a close race, but the others were never prominent. The race started at 3 p.m. The finishing \times were:—Avro (scr). 4h 59m 10s; Mystic (sm), 5h 0m 365; Doris 12m). 5h 0m 555; Rita (10m). 5h 7m 555; Walton (14m). 5h 11m 2s. Colleen. Martha S., Wild Wave, Gnnnet. and Sea Egg retired. The result on corrected times was:— Mvstic, 1; Waitoa. 2; Rita, 3. The owner of Mystic reported having fouled the Stanley Bay markbont. In the race for classes T. X and Y, Alerte ( was first away, and close on her stern came ■ Demon, Opah, Sea Rover and Jupiter. The rest of the boats were late. On completion of the first round the times of the leading boats were:—Demon, 4h 12m 445; Opah, 4h 15m 20s; Alerte. 4h 15m 235; Jupiter. 4h 18m 50s; Mighty Atom, 4h 22m 20s; Oreti. 4h 30m 40s; Desert Gold, 4h 31m 255. Tho race started at 3.10 p.m. The finishing times were:—Demon (scr), 4h 58m 16s: Alerte (scr). 5h 'lm 4s; Jupiter (7m), oh 3m lis; Sea Rover (Cm), oh 12m 3s; Mighty Atom, Oreti. Desert Gold and Stormy retired. Tho result on corrected times was:— Jupiter, 1; Demon, 2; Alerte, 3. Two races were held for Tauranga sevenfooters. The finishing times in the first race were:—Wish Wynne (scr), 3h 58m 455;. Seagull (scr), 3h 59m 20s; Imp (2m), 4h 4m Bs, Tho result on corrected times was:—Wish Wynne, 1; Seagull. 2; Imp. 3. Weona (lm), Wish Wynne (scr). Seagull (30s). nnd Imp (6m) started in the second race for seven-footers, but only Seagull completed tho course, her finishing time being: 5h 6m 365. In this event Weona broke her rudder and Wish Wynne capsized. TAKAPUNA BOATING CLUB. RACE FOR CLASS Z. The Takapuna Boating Club held a race for class Z on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. Six boats fated the starter, Tio crossing tho line first, closely followed by Trevic, Me Too, Delphine and Oi. Kitty was 16im late. The finishing times were:—Tio (jm), 4h 2m 30s: Trevic (15s), 4h 2m 355; Me Too (15s), 4h 3m 20s; Delphine (l*m), 4h 3m S4s; Kitty (ecr), 4h 11m 40s. Oi retired with a broken forestay when holding third position. The result on corrected times was:—Tio, 1; Delphine, 2; Trevic, 3. Me Too has protested against Tio on an alleged breach of the port and starboard tnck rule. MANUKAU YACHT CLUB. The Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club's launch race for ihe Kermath Cup was held on Saturday over a course of 25 miles. _ The result was:—Shark (3h 16m), 1: Kaiapoi Oh 17m 30s). 2; Mary G.
