MARRIED MEN'S CAMPS.
WAITEMATA COUNTY SCHEME.
OPERATIONS START TO-DAY. The first of the Waitemata County Council's camps for unemployed married men will be startld to-day at Piha and near Waimauku. Eventually the council hopes to establish a series of camps which will absorb up to 100 men, who will bo engaged in opening up a number of small quarries in tho county and in metalspreading. From eight to 10 men will be employed at each quarry. In addition to the two camps which will be started to-day, the council hopes to establish three in the Waipareira Biding, two in the Pukeatua Riding, one or two in the Wainui Riding, and two in the Kaukapakapa, Riding. The arrangement is that the men are to work a full 44-hours week, with no stand-down week as under the No. 5 scheme. Those classified as four-day men will be paid £2 10s a woek, and the three-day men 37s 6d a week. The County Councif will provide tents, transport to the camps and tools.
