SWIM ACROSS HARBOUR.
RACE AT- WHANGAREI. BAIRD GAINS FASTEST TIME. [BY TELEGRArH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI, Friday. The annual harbour swim under (he auspices of the Whnngarei Swimming Club, was held yesterday under ideal weather conditions. The course was from Kissing I'oint to tho Town Wharf, a distnnco of two miles. The competitors were taken to the starting point in the launches of Messrs. W. Reynolds, H. Preebn and F. Anderson, and were despatched by Mr. G. Reid. Following are the resultsH. Windust (12min. start), 51m, 1; C. Binginton (7m). 47m, 2; J. Stirling (7nt), 49m, 3. A. Baird gained the fastest time, swimming the distance in 43 4-sm. At tho conclusion of the race, the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, presented the cups to the winning competitors, and especially congratulated A. Baird on his performance.
