HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST
FURTHER HEAVY RAIN. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplier! l\v Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The cyclone of tropical character has moved on to the Auckland Peninsula from the northern Tasman Sea, and yesterday was centred northward of Cape Maria. Indications point io unsettled weather generally, with additional rain in most districts, heavy throughout the Auckland Province and east coast districts. Rivers flooded. Thunder probable in the north. Conditions are expected to improve after about 24 hours, fine weather following. Northerly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong, hacking by west to south, strong southerlies then ruling generally. Seas rough Local outlook: Further heavy rain is indicated, followed by an improvement. Mainly fair to fine to-morrow. Warm | and humid conditions. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.55 in. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 29.85 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 72deg.; Minimum, 65deg. t GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—The northern, cyclone has become deep and is centred just east of Norfolk Island. Indications are for south-easterly to north-easterly winds, moderate, but freshening. Seas rather rough north of East Cape, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Strong southeasterly to northerly winds in the northern portion of the Eastern Tasman Sea, elsewhere light to moderate. Seas rough in the Far North, elsewhere moderate. The weather will still be cloudy and sultry, with mist or fog in places. Some rain in most districts and some heavy falls in th© Far North. RAINFALL RECORD.
