MR. BRUCE'S POST.

AUSTRALIA'S INTERESTS. COMMENT BY THE TIMES. LONDON. Fob. 11. The appointment of Mr. 8. M. Bruce as Bcsident Commonwealth Minister in London is a most, interesting, experiment in the attempts of the Dominions to secure a more effective representation iri London and abroad, which Australia is fittingly the first Dominion to make, says the Times in a leading article. That is especially so because Australia refrained from following the example of oilier Dominions in appointing representatives to foreign capitals, feeling that to do so would be an expensive futility. On the other hand Australia has attached great importance to keeping in the closest touch with London. The appointment of Major Casey as liaison officer enabled Canberra to bo more fully informed about the general international situation and British and in-ter-Imperial affairs than the other Dominions. But the position required exceptional personal qualities, and the appointment of a member of the Cabinet, able to speak for the Australian Government with full knowledge and authority, must enable the respective Governments to understand better their mutual problems, and must facilitate co-operation in all fields.
