IMPORT DUTIES BILL.

COMMITTEE STAGES. DEFEAT OF AMENDMENTS. (Received February 19. 9.35 p.m.) LONDON. Feh. 18. In tlie Committee stages of the Imports Duties Bill Major Lloyd George (Independent Liberal—Pembroke) moved an amendment to provide that the imposition of the 10 per cent, duties should be subject to inquiry and report. The amendment was defeated by 293 votes to 61. Sir Stafford Cripps (Labour —Bristol East) moved that the duties shoulit operate on November 15 instead of March 1. He said Britain ought not to be bound before the Ottawa Conference. This amendment/ was defeated without division.
