BUCKLAND ROAD BUS.

Sir,—lt is now a month or thereabouts since the Buckland Road bus service was discontinued. During that interval a petition has been presented to the Transport Board and a deputation has waited upon the board, but with negative results as far as re-esablishing the service is concerned. This is the position in a nutshell. As the board discontinued tho service by reason of the lack of patronage of the residents living along the route, it stands to reason that the board should not mind a private concern running a bus service to cater for this handful of people, who at the most apparently are so negligible a. quantity that their numbers could hardly affect the revenue of the trams, and whose interests are not worth studying by continuing a bus service, which has been established for about three years or As a matter of fact, the route is one essentially .adapted for bus transport, as it is as nearly as possible equidistant between two tram services, that of Mount Eden and' of Mnnukau Road. Along the route there are four hospitals; the public hospital. Mater Misericordiae, Cairnhill and Awanui. To have a bus service running past these hospitals is of great benefit, to the general public. In these days transport authorities the world over are anxious to provide suitable and convenient transport for the people. The Auckland Board evidently believes in retrogression. Perhaps we may yet see (lie old horse cars in Quern Street ? Who knows! GojiPON Bennett.
