FORFEITURE OF BAIL.

ACCUSED'S NON-APPEARANCE CROWN APPLIES TO COURT. The failure of an person to appear for trial at the recent criminal sessions of the Supreme Court had a sequel in the Court yesterday, when the Crown applied for the forfeiture of accused's bail, amounting to £250. The accused, who is still being sought by the police, is Charles Grace, aged 40, bootmaker, who was charged with forging the name of G. F. Hollay to a cheque for £55 and of conspiring with another man to defraud Auckland bank managers of £l4O and £lll. Accused's bondman did not appear. The order for estreatment of bail wa* granted by Mr. Justice Smith, who remarked that the procedure in such cases had recently been discussed by the Full Court. Counsel for the Crown,: That is so. Application may be made to have the amount returned.
