QUINNAT SALMON.

SPORT IN CANTERBURY. According to the latest angling reports from South Canterbury, the permanent trout waters are still affording a fair amount of sport; but at the moment fishermen are most interested by the news of a run of quinn.it salmon, and many exciting rumours to that effect. For instance, rumour had it that " the quinnat are coming in by thousands with every tide," that " over a hundred were caught on- Sunday at the mouth of the Rangitata liiver " Monday's news was Jess enthusiastic, but, so far as we can learn at the moment, it is a fact that a number of quinnab salmon have been landed from the Rangitata, and a heavy " run " may occur at any time, Kays a Christ church newspaper. Wc have It on good authority that a certain well-known angler took seven quinnat, while his companion succeeded in landing five. Another fisherman caught three—two twenty-pounders and a fifteen-pounder—in a pool below the Rangitata railway bridge.
