CHURCH TO CARICATURE.
PARSON AS CARTOONIST. SWEDISH VICAR'S TALENT. In the Swedish newspapers have recently appeared some excellent drawings by a new caricaturist, Mr. L. E. Ullman, who was formerly a vicar of the Swedish State Church. The drawings, characterised by fine craftsmanship and much Satirical humour, have created widespread attention in Scandinavia, "since the artist has given up his ecclesiastical calling to become a cartoonist. Mr. Ullman belongs to a family the members #f which have been bishops and clergymen for several centuries. Only lately a few members of the family have appeared as novelists and painters, much against the wish of the traditionalists. Mr. Ullman, while a vicar of a Swedish parish, felt that his artistic interests got the better of his theological trend, and finally resigned his official position. At that time lie was too afraid, however, to publish his drawings in a Swedish newspaper, but moved to Denmark, where he had great success as a caricaturist. Ho is about 40 years of age.
